Changing but unchanged

Posted: July 28, 2015 by abestratton in Uncategorized

This summer I am transitioning into a new role at our church, so I’m stepping away from the regular oversight and shepherding of our teens after almost 7 years with them.

This transition is exciting to me, but it’s also bittersweet. Relationships change, and responsibilities change. So I won’t be posting on this blog as regularly as I have been for the last number of months/years. I want to continue posting resources and thoughts as I have opportunity, but as I’ve said, things change.

Regardless of the change, I hope that those who have read things here will continue to Live, Love, and Last in Christ!

4 Questions that Destroy a Kid’s Faith in God…

Posted: January 30, 2015 by abestratton in Uncategorized

Summit Ministries is an organization dedicated to helping young people understand and defend their faith. They’ve put together a helpful post detailing major questions which can cause a professing Christian to doubt the validity of their faith if they don’t have strong answers.

1. Does Christianity really matter?

2. How do I know Christianity is real?

3. What is God’s plan for my life?

4. Why does God allow bad things to happen?

The post itself gives thoughtful and intentional answers to each of those questions. It’s a short read, but very profitable. Parents, this would be a great tool to use with your teens.

Men, Let’s Be Men

Men, let’s recommit today to invest in those we love.
I’ve heard too many stories recently of marriages crumbling and children running because husbands/fathers were disconnected and passive.
The risk of investing is real, but the cost of passivity is devastating.
God made men to be caring leaders and risk-taking protectors, bold champions and vulnerable lovers. So, no matter your station in life today, step into the lives of those near you for their immediate and long-term good.

Putting Pressure on Teens

Writer and leadership trainer, Tim Elmore, has some great insights into parenting trends over the last several decades and how they have affected teens. In this first post Elmore points out that we often load our teens with the wrong kinds of pressure and expectations, and in this second post he points out the positive and character-building types of pressure which help our teens to mature.

I just found this resource today – Center for Parent/Youth Understanding. This organization’s website is filled with helpful tools (many of them free). All are geared toward teens, parents of teens, or people ministering to teens. They have helpful articles, research, videos (on YouTube), media reviews for music and movies, culture trends, college advice, parenting thoughts. It’s an amazing tool. I plan to revisit this site often, and I’ll probably be re-posting some of their articles or resources on this blog. But I can’t recommend this site highly enough.

Hopeless without Christ

This is a powerful video which we showed in our L3inC gathering on Sunday. It is a sobering reality which we need to be reminded of often.

Flee sexual immorality!

Followers of Jesus,

You are not your own, for you were bought with a price – the blood of Jesus. So glorify God in your body.

Flee from sexual immorality. (1 Cor. 6:18-20)
