What does “Parenting” a teen mean?

Parenting is one of the most challenging parts of life.

Being a child is one of the most challenging parts of life.

So how do both parties (teens and parents) function in this difficult but potentially rewarding relationship? Jon Hagen, a counselor with years of experience helping families, has written some helpful comments about how parents and teens can interact with each other. They are brief but very helpful, and you can read them here.

He has also written down some ideas for books which parents and teens can read together to develop their relationship with Jesus and with each other. Jon’s list can be intimidating, but remember that he started with one book. I think his idea is a great step, and I would challenge parents (and especially dads) to lead out in this way with their sons and daughters.

God has made you your kids’ parents; no one else can parent them like you can.
