Life Lesson 5: Perceived Disappointment Could Be Your Greatest Opportunity

Here is Rick’s next post to teens and their parents.

Could it be that what you are going through is an opportunity for you to find God? Could it be that God has allowed the circumstances to come into your life to get your attention because He loves you and wants to redirect your life?

It is easy to miss God because we were expecting something better. Our human wisdom can cloud God’s wisdom and in such cases, we never learn what He wants us to learn. The disciples were that way when Jesus died on the cross (1 Corinthians 1:18-25).

They wanted and expected a King and what they got was a dead friend. It took them some time to readjust their thinking to this idea that God’s ways and our ways are not always in agreement with how we think (Mark 8:31-33).

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. – Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV)

[Charles] Sykes [an education guru] is talking about finding opportunity in a mundane, dead-end job. I’m talking about finding Christ where you might least expect Him–in your troubles.
