Here is Rick Thomas’ second article for teens and parents.
Life Lesson 2: Life is not fair – get used to it!

This is one of the hardest things for a child to adjust to. I hear my kids say “It’s not fair” from time to time and every time they say it, I think, “I hope you can get used to it because life ain’t fair.”

I don’t leave my thoughts there because it would be harsh and unkind. It’s important my children are carefully walked through why life is not fair. I want them to understand life was never meant to be fair–since Adam–and it will never be fair until Jesus comes back.

The world and all the inhabitants in it are under a curse (Genesis 3:14-19; Romans 8:20-12). The fall of Adam was a mighty fall. It brought us all down to a place of self-centered depravity.

Adam brought death into the neighborhood and we all have been affected. There is not a perfect person among us (Romans 3:10-12). We all stink. We are all worthless (Romans 3:12). We’re all deserving of hell. None of us are any good.

This is really bad news. Think about it with me. If we are this bad–and we are, then how can you expect life to be fair? If you go back and read the Bible verses above, how could you possibly think you would not be cheated, hurt, slandered, cursed, harmed, or mistreated?

It’s like walking through a car wash expecting not to get wet. I’m not sure how we ever got it into our heads that we would never get wet. But you are wet. We’re all wet. That is the way life has to be…since Adam took a dive in the garden.
